What is SentrySafe and SentrySafe strut?

SentrySafe is a brand of gun safe, they are designed to provide proper storage and protection for your guns and pistols with security features. Usually, it is built with solid steel construction so that the SentrySafe is durable enough to protect against unauthorized access and theft. SentrySafe strut is used to support the door of the sentry safe.

In a word, the sentry pistol safe is good for protecting our safety. However, some issues occur with time, and the most common problem is not opening properly. The main reason is that the air piston will start to lose its compression, the door will not open up completely, and it can only be opened at about a 40-degree angle. Therefore, it is inconvenient since we cannot retrieve our pistol or firearm quickly when needed, so the value of the sentry pistol safes is lost.

2 Quick Ways to Fix SentrySafe Strut Failure

For this situation, there are 2 ways to solve this problem. One is to take the strut out and let it sit for a week. I tried it before and found it works better than before. However, it is not convenient since the procedure of taking out and reinstalling the strut, again and again, is time-wasting. The second method is to replace the failing strut and do it once and for all. That’s why I recommend the second way. Many customers use the Apexstone 7-inch 80N gas struts to Replace the failing strut on their SentrySafe Quick Access biometric safe. They think it is a good choice with simple installation and affordable prices. Apexstone provides a 7-inch 80N gas spring for the specification, which is slightly shorter than what the stock gas struts were. That is maybe three-quarters of an inch shorter. So, the safe will not open at a perfect 90-degree angle. But it’s not a problem because what we care about is quickly opening up the safe gun so we can retrieve our firearms. Besides, you can also consider trying 7.68 inch 80 N gas struts if you desire a larger open angle. Since the introduction of the 7.68-inch specification, it has successfully addressed the issue of gun safes lacking quick access for tens of thousands of customers.

How do I install New gas struts quickly?

We will install the new Apexstone 80 N gas struts, and I will show you simple mounting instructions.

Firstly, take our new Apexstone 7-inch 80 N gas spring or 7.68-inch 80N gas spring out. The screws and any extra parts that came with the piston are not needed in the installation.
Secondly, prepare a cross Philips head screwdriver to take the top part of the stock gas strut off and the bottom part off in order. Then take the strut and turn it to the left, and it will unscrew from the connector. Please note that we need to retain this connector since the stock one is a bit thinner than the one on the Apexstone struts.

Thirdly, take our new strut and reinstall it in reverse order. Here are some tips if you want to open your gun safe at a more extensive degree angle. The connector doesn’t need to be screwed in, so on the top one, you can add a couple of small washers, leaving plenty of thread. As for the bottom part, you can screw this out about halfway. However, If you use the 7.68-inch one for your fingerprint gun safe, you can skip this step, as the length of the 7.68-inch lift strut is ideal for both SentrySafe gun safes and most biometric gun safes.
Finally, please try to make sure it opens properly.
